Life in the rubbish

By Ariadna Alberich

We really have big problems or we just complain for complaining? Of course, everybody in this world, whether if is rich or poor, has his own problems and obviously for him is very important but, if we put all the problems in the same boat there will be someone that will stand out among the others. One of these in the poverty, there’re lots of families that can’t have an own house or any house to live, their children can’t go to an appropriated school, and probably they can’t have everyday a plate on the table as all of us we have. It’s obvious that those affected are both adults and children, but children are the ones that will suffer the most as they will have to live together with poverty more time as it’s very difficult leave the situation.  And, I think that this photo represents perfectly the situation of the children.

In the photo we can see we can see two different “worlds”. If we look at the background, we see lots of skyscrapers where maybe live rich people or with the necessary money to live there. In the middle of the photo is when the second world begin; it seems to be a dumping side lots of rubbish accumulated together. There is a man driving a kind of old yellow tractor, that instead of a roof it has an old and dirty canvas, with which he organizes the rubbish. Behind the tractor, there is a group of brown cows provably eating the food they found. Also, in the sky of the photo we see lots of birds that could be vultures as they look fly surrounding the tons of rubbish. The front is the most astonishing part of the photo, we can see two little girls -perhaps they’re sisters- walking to the rubbish.  The one on the left it seems to be smaller, she is wearing an old, baggy, red, white spotted, cotton, shirt; a pair of worn-out, baggy, red, cotton trousers and a pair of brown flip-flops, she is also wearing a kind of dirty kerchief wrapping her trunk. The one on the right, is wearing a holey, loose, white, plain, cotton, short-sleeved t-shirt; a pair of old, loose, white, cotton tracksuit trousers and a pair of flips-flops. Both are carrying a very big bag that they had used before as the bags are very wear away. For sure they are going to the dumping side to search some food or clothes for them and their families, and if they don’t go every day they should go frequently. I suppose that this photo was made in India as in this county there are lots of cows, another reason is the colour of the skin that the two girls have and also because in India there are a lot of poor people mixed with the rich, that could be represented with the skyscrapers. We can’t see the faces of the girls but I think that they are not sad as they do this frequently and it’s a part of their routine; provably they have been poor since they were born and fore them it’s normal going to the dumping side to search for necessary things. When I see this photo I feel sadness and impotence as the only thing that we can do to help in this situation is donate some money, food, clothes… to different NGO but with the things that we donate the problem doesn’t end, as there’s lot of poverty in the world and its impossible to put a end to all the poverty.

It's horrible having to see this kind of photos in the 21st century and see that the situation doesn’t progress, that the poor people for sure will be poor forever. The worst thing is that we not only see this in photos, also we see this in our day a day when we go to the supermarket or we are going for a walk. All of us we have seen someone sleeping inside a bank, asking for food or for some money and this devastate you. It’s very unfair that many people in the world are suffering for not having running water, sanity or electricity while these things are normal in our daily life. And, from my point of view, the most devastate thing and in the same time the most admirable is see children in this situation as they are happy only with a little thing while us, we never have enough.
